Designer Gaby Aghion founded the French clothing label Chloé in 1952, although she was actually born in Egypt. Ms. Aghion disliked the stiff, uncomfortable styles that were in vogue at the time, so she decided to change it up by using different fabrics.

Soft, form-fitting clothes became the trademark of the brand before releasing its first self-named fragrance in 1975. The company was sold in 1985 and has changed hands many times since then, though the name still hold water in the perfume community.
